“Yayla Öyküsü” (Tale of the Summer Pasture – Turkish), an early-20th-century Yatak Rug, was hand-knotted in Nuzumla/Yaylacık Village of Konya. Likely used as a platform rug, Yayla Öyküsü features a central rectangular field decorated with geometric motifs, including stylized versions of protective amulets and symbolic abstractions of animals. The borders incorporate ram’s horn motifs, hook-like talismans, and intricate cross-diamond arrangements. The color palette of plant-based natural dyes showcases saturated hues of cherry red and golden yellow contrasted with black and ivory outlines.
Hand-spun wool knotted with the symmetrical Ghiordes technique gives Yayla Öyküsü its thick, but tactile structure. Woven on a wool foundation, its braided fringes reinforce its rural roots.
