“Tetri Samkaro” (Stepped Cosmos – Georgian) was woven as a hall rug in the early-20th-century, featuring three large, octagonal medallions, set against a saturated burgundy red field. The medallions’ echo, unlike the core medallion, reflects similar visual rhythms in green and red blocks. Tetri Samkaro‘s wide borders are packed with angular and protective motifs. The repeating ram’s horn pattern encircling the field symbolizes strength, fertility, and energy. Other elements include zig-zag motifs and stepped mountain forms, symbolizing transition or ascension. The weaving is done in high-twist, hand-spun wool, with a foundation comprising a wool-goat hair blend, giving Tetri Samkaro a rustic and tactile quality.
Woven with precision with the Turkish Ghiordes knot, using a wool pile on a wool foundation, and plant-based natural dyes, Tetri Samkaro reflects a perfect balance between geometric clarity and symbolic tradition.
