This hand-knotted hall rug, “Passage of Hues” from the mid-20th-century, is a combination of architectural rhythm and chromatic richness. Eight pointed arches run lengthwise along the central field, and each is colored in hues such as ochre, brick-red, navy, olive-green, teal, and black. These arches may be interpreted as stylized gateways, suggesting a procession of spiritual or architectural elements. The borders feature an arrangement of floral and geometric motifs, including small amulet-hooks believed to serve protective or talismanic functions.
